CHICAGO – To foster an environment of genuine community engagement and fellowship state Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, recently attended several block clubs’ parties in addition to the Morgan Park Roots Festival.

“This is my favorite part of being a state representative. I absolutely love attending the different functions throughout my district and getting a real sense of the concerns and lives that the folks in my district have,” said Slaughter “These block club gatherings are a great opportunity to experience the varying traditions and pride that are found in each block in Chicago!”

Slaughter’s block club tour and Morgan Park Roots Festival visit took place on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019. Slaughter attended over 5 block club gatherings and hosted a fully furnished canopy at the Morgan Park Roots Festival. Slaughter made sure that residents well-fed and informed of legislation and upcoming projects that were relevant to them. Slaughter concluded the community visits by attending the 9100 Wallace block club party where he also spoke with community members about their issues and concerns

“I am so grateful to be a part of the legendary Morgan Park Roots Festival and hope that it will continue for many years to come,” said Slaughter. “It is my hope that this festival can continue for generations to come and I look forward to the continued revitalization of Morgan Park.”
