CHICAGO – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, in collaboration with the Illinois attorney general’s office, hosted a Senior Fraud Prevention Seminar to help seniors avoid becoming victims of fraud and identity theft.
“I am extraordinarily pleased to see our seniors take the initiative and commit themselves to fraud prevention,” said Slaughter. “All too often our seniors are taken advantage of by unscrupulous scammers in fraudulent phone calls. I can rest a bit easier knowing that there are now a few more seniors out there who are armed with the knowledge to outsmart scammers and not be a victim.”
Slaughter’s Senior Fraud Prevention Seminar helped over 20 constituents learn about the many ways that they can protect themselves from being victims of scams, fraud and identity theft. Seniors were also given the opportunity to get more information about the attorney general’s other programs like the Crime Victim Compensation program, which can provide up to $27,000 to victims of violent crime.
“I’m grateful for the Illinois attorney general’s office for sending knowledgeable representatives to help do their part in educating our seniors on how to avoid scammers and fraudsters,” said Slaughter. “I look forward to partnering with the attorney general’s office again and bringing this helpful information to even more seniors.”
