CHICAGO – In an effort to help prepare students for the upcoming school year, State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, recently hosted the 5 th annual 21 st Ward Back-to-School Community Picnic along with AldermanHoward B. Brookins, Jr., Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore, and Another Chance Church.
“I am so proud of all the wonderful things that our young people accomplished in the past year and am even more excited for what they will do in the upcoming school year,” said Slaughter. “They have worked so hard to reach where they are, and I know that they will keep striving to even greater heights.”
Slaughter co-hosted the 5 th annual 21 st Ward Back-to-School Community Picnic on Aug. 24 in collaboration with Alderman Howard B. Brookins, Jr., Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore, and Another Chance Church. Over 300 students received bookbags filled with supplies and a commemorative shirt. Community members also enjoyed free barbecue, games, and information from state agencies.
“Seeing our community come together to support our young people fills me with overwhelming joy and happiness,” said Slaughter. “I am proud of our young people and glad that we are available to help them accomplish their dreams by providing them with resources.”
